The Farm Story

  • Since 1989

We're going organic [Trigger: The Chernobyl nuclear disaster]

After the devastating impact of the events in Chernobyl, we started to rethink our approach. In 1989, we converted our farm from conventional to "organic" and have been managing it according to the strict Bioland guidelines ever since.

  • 1991

Cheesemaking [The First Raw Milk Cheeses]

To become independent of fluctuating milk prices, we started producing cheese in 1991.
Gradually, new, self-developed cheese varieties were added. Our raw milk cheese specialties are now known beyond the borders of Schleswig-Holstein and have won many wonderful awards.

We are one of the few German cheese dairies that have been successful at the "World Cheese Awards" in recent years.

Bio-Energy [We are heating oil-free]

Since the early 2000s, we have had our own biogas plant on the farm.

We are able to cover the entire electricity and heating requirements of the entire farm exclusively with renewable energies.

Life is bustling here [Backensholzer Farm Kids]

In 2018, we then opened our own small farm and forest kindergarten.

In doing so, we are fulfilling our educational mission: We want to teach children early on to respect nature and animals.

Bistro & Farm Shop [a place to feel good]

After a long planning and construction phase, we finally completed our new farm shop in 2019.
In addition to the farm shop, a small but excellent bistro has also found its place here. We only use organic ingredients for our dishes!

What's next [a look into the future]

Our heads are – as always – full of new ideas.

One of our goals is to become even more sustainable. To achieve this goal, we will continue to turn a few screws here and there.
